New window

When we bought the guest house it had a very old, very tired window on the landing that we vowed to replace, 8 years later we have just done it.

I had high hopes and to be honest the new window doesn't live up to them. Initially the whole thing was going to be opaqued glass, then I thought we should make a feature of the beautiful arch, the old window used to catch the sunset and cast a lovely yellow glow and I thought maybe we could replicate that. I hadn't realised that new fangled (cheap) processes use film not coloured glass and film just doesnt have the depth, I had wanted the setting sun to have yellow and orange alternate rays and for some reason they could only colour every other, and when the film is viewed against the leaves on the trees outside its not yellow, its green.

Did I mention that the window isn't opaque either? It was supposed to be and once it had been installed the installer mentioned that someone had made a mistake and the glass was clear and not opaque. So he is going to fix install a new bottom section that is opaque. We live in hope. (That said Digby is loving his new vantage point - a view he has never had before!)
